Description

Spain's first Gothic cathedral, integrated into the medieval wall as a defensive bastion. Its apse forms part of the eastern wall section, turning the temple into a fortress. The interior houses Pedro Berruguete's main altarpiece, Cornelis de Holanda's choir and the 15th-century humanist bishop El Tostado's tomb. The granite gives the ensemble an austere military character unique among Spanish Gothic cathedrals.
