Context
The Pico de la Buitrera, at 2,046 meters, is the northernmost summit in the Sierra de Ayllón, located in Guadalajara. This mountain range within the Central System is renowned for its extensive beech forests and well-marked trails. The route begins at the Ermita de la Virgen de Hontanares, situated at 1,430 meters, a historically significant site that marks the start of a 600-meter ascent through a protected natural environment where the wind carries the scent of pine.

Over 6 to 8 hours, you’ll follow a trail crossing the Collado de la Lagunilla and Alto del Parrejón, with stops to admire rocky landscapes and dense beech forests. The sound of wind rustling through the branches accompanies the climb to the summit, where panoramic 360° views unfold. The route concludes with a descent along the same path, completing a full mountain day.
