Check-in at the inn. Walk through the historic slate centre. Briefing with biologist. Dinner.
Mycology + dusk observation

Morning: foraging day with basket in regenerating pines (4-5h). Lunch. Afternoon: identification session. Sunset: observation knoll with binoculars (2-3h).
Wolf Centre and wrap-up

Breakfast. Optional visit to the Iberian Wolf Centre at Robledo (semi-wild wolves visible). Light lunch. Departure.

Lodging

Inn or rural house in a hamlet

2 nights in a posada real or restored rural house in Villardeciervos, Tábara, Mahide or Puebla de Sanabria. Slate and wood, heating, homemade breakfast.

4-5h in post-fire regenerating pine with certified biologist. Basket foraging, on-site ID, field guide included.
Wildlife observation at dusk

2-3h on a known knoll with binoculars and spotting scope. Searching for wolf, deer (rut in September), fox, wild boar. Local guide with territory knowledge.
Mycology licence handled

We process the free Junta de Castilla y León individual licence. Limit 5 kg/person/day.
Optional Wolf Centre visit

Robledo. Spain's only centre with semi-wild wolves (22 fenced hectares). Guaranteed sightings. Entry ~€12/person, not included.

What's the real probability of seeing a wolf?

In the wild, 20-30% on a 2-3h session with good guide and favourable light. Probability of hearing howls at dusk: medium-high in autumn-winter. For guaranteed live sightings, add the Robledo Wolf Centre (guaranteed).

How is the forest after the 2026 fire?

30,000 ha burned, in intense natural regeneration. Saprophytic mushrooms (parasol, beefsteak fungus) are back ahead of adult pine. Wildlife has redistributed but remains present: the wolf moves across more open territory.

Can I eat the mushrooms I pick?

Only what the biologist verifies species by species. Some like Amanita phalloides are lethal and appear in oak zones. Never eat what you forage without verification.

Is the wolf dangerous?

No risk to humans. The Iberian wolf is elusive and flees on detecting human presence. Observation knolls are 200-500 m from typical areas, no risk.
