Description

Marina Alta occupies the northeastern tip of Alicante province, where the last spurs of the Betic System plunge into the Mediterranean, creating cliffs, turquoise coves and mountains topping 750 metres just kilometres from the sea. It is the most rugged and best-preserved stretch of coast in the Valencian Community.

Denia and Javea are the gateways, with the Montgo as a backdrop and the Cova Tallada as an icon. Calpe rises beneath the Penon de Ifach silhouette, Altea crowns its hill with the blue dome, and inland, dramatic gorges like the Barranc de l'Infern open up. Kayaking, snorkelling, climbing and hiking take centre stage, while the Jalon valley wineries and mountain villages provide a gastronomic and rural counterpoint.

The mild climate allows outdoor activities almost year-round, with spring and autumn as ideal seasons to avoid summer crowds without giving up swimming.
