Cofete Beach

Cofete Beach is an extensive 12-kilometer stretch of sand located on the Jandía peninsula in southern Fuerteventura. This protected natural area stands out for its wild, isolated character, where the sea and wind shape a vast landscape of austere beauty. The beach lies within the Jandía Natural Park, helping preserve its nearly pristine condition and ecosystem.

As you explore Cofete Beach, you'll find fine golden sand stretching as far as the eye can see, with powerful, consistent waves that attract experienced surfers. The surroundings are dominated by mountains forming a rocky, arid backdrop with sparse vegetation adapted to the dry climate. At the southern end is Casa Winter, a historic building shrouded in mystery, adding cultural interest to the natural scenery.

Historically, the Jandía peninsula has been sparsely inhabited due to difficult access and harsh climatic conditions. Casa Winter, built in the 1940s, was used as an operations base during World War II, giving the area a unique historical context. The beach's isolation has helped preserve its natural state, serving as a refuge for marine species and migratory birds.

To reach Cofete Beach, you must travel along a dirt track from the town of Morro Jable, a route that can be challenging for unprepared vehicles. There are no services on the beach, so it is recommended to bring water, food, and sun protection. The absence of lifeguards and the strength of the waves call for caution when swimming. The beach is free and open year-round, ideal for those seeking tranquility and direct contact with nature in a largely untouched environment.
