Description

As Burgas are the thermal springs that give Ourense its identity, known as 'the city of the Burgas'. In the heart of the old town, water naturally surfaces at around 64-67 °C through three monumental fountains: the Burga de Arriba (Neoclassical, 18th century), the Burga do Medio and the Burga de Abaixo (more modern). The use of these mineral-medicinal waters dates back to Roman times, when their properties were already valued.

Designated a Cultural Heritage site, As Burgas is an open-air space with free access at any time. Next to the fountains is the As Burgas thermal pool, a free bathing pool fed by the same spring. It is the best gateway to Ourense's thermal culture, which also features many pools and spas along the Miño river.
