The route: two sections over the Mediterranean
The Cala del Molí via ferrata is set on the orange granite sea cliffs of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, on the Costa Brava. The activity is divided into two distinct sections: the first crosses a series of small islands and sea stacks via Nepalese bridges suspended at water level, with the sapphire-blue Mediterranean constantly below your feet. The second section consists of a vertical climb up the cliff face, with technical K3/K4 passages that test both strength and determination. The approach from the meeting point is just 10 minutes, and the return another 10 minutes. What lies in between is pure vertical Costa Brava.
Level K3/K4: a real challenge, not a beginner route
This via ferrata is rated K3/K4, making it an activity for those who have already completed an introduction-level route or who have good physical fitness and no extreme fear of heights. No specific climbing experience is required, but attitude, confidence and some upper body and core strength are essential. Minimum age 12. The certified mountain guide accompanies the group throughout and manages the most exposed sections.
Practical information
The best time for this via ferrata is October to May, particularly at sunrise when the low orange light contrasts with the blue sea and visitor numbers are at a minimum. In summer the heat and the crowds on nearby beaches make the activity inadvisable. No swimming or wetsuit is required. Bring water and sun protection. Sant Feliu de Guíxols is 100 km from Barcelona.
