What is a via ferrata A via ferrata is a secured climbing route with rock anchors, iron rungs (pitons) and handrails bolted into the rockface. It allows people to climb vertical walls without prior experience, following a marked route with specific safety equipment.

The activity The guide explains how to use the harness and energy-absorbing lanyards before starting. During the route, participants move clipped onto the safety cable, overcoming rock steps, handrails and sections of real vertical exposure.
