Questions fréquentes sur Vallée de Núria
Obtiens des réponses sur Vallée de Núria
Can you go to Núria Valley by car?
No. The only motorized access is the rack railway that departs from Ribes de Freser. The road bordering the Freser river ends in Queralbs; from there there is also a 4.5 km hiking route (El Pèlec) with 1,000 m of elevation gain that reaches the sanctuary on foot in about 3 hours. The rack railway takes 45 minutes and has scheduled timetables that should be consulted in advance.
What physical level is needed to climb Puigmal from Núria?
The route to Puigmal via Coma de l'Embut requires a good high mountain walking level. It's about 950 m of positive elevation gain from the sanctuary (950 m in about 5 km) on slate and alpine grass terrain without signage on the upper sections. The usual ascent time is 2 h 30 min to 3 h. Good mountain footwear, warm clothing (the summit exceeds 2,900 m) and leaving before 9 a.m. in summer to avoid storms are essential.
Is there accommodation in the valley itself?
Yes. The sanctuary complex includes Hotel Vall de Núria, with double rooms and full or half board. There is also a camping area with basic services. Both options allow you to stay overnight and enjoy the valley early in the morning or at sunset, when most day hikers have already descended. Advance booking is essential in July, August and during ski season.
What activities does the valley offer in winter?
In winter the valley operates as an alpine ski station with 14 km of slopes, four lifts and a maximum elevation gain of 300 m. The glacial cirque is also a very popular destination for mountaineering (routes to Puig de la Fossa del Gegant are the most popular) and for snowshoeing. Exclusive rack railway access limits capacity and helps maintain a less crowded atmosphere than other Pyrenean stations.
Is Núria Lake natural or artificial?
The lake is artificial. It was built in 1913 to meet the water needs of the sanctuary and its complex. It has a reduced surface area but photogenic sheet of water: on windless days it reflects the ridges surrounding the cirque, and in summer you can row on rented boats available at the complex itself. The lake is not equipped for swimming.
