Arona covers the southwest of Tenerife and borders the Teide National Park, making it a natural gateway to the island's volcanic trails. Hiking across lava fields and cañadas around Teide starts from altitudes of 2,000 m, through landscapes of lapilli and basaltic rock. Montaña Guaza, within the municipality itself, is another popular hiking destination with views of both the sea and the volcano from its summit. Along the coast, the beaches of Las Galletas and Los Cristianos are the focal point for beginner surf lessons and snorkelling over volcanic seabeds in calm, sheltered waters. Paragliding has its busiest launch sites in the adjacent Adeje area, taking advantage of thermals generated by the coastal relief. MTB routes combine the forest tracks of the central massif with descents to the shore, while local operators run guided excursions by quad bike and 4x4 across dirt tracks.
