Biescas is the gateway to the Tena Valley in the Aragonese Pyrenees, a municipality at 860 metres where the Gállego and Caldares rivers meet. With 1,700 inhabitants and a full range of services (hotels, restaurants, shops, pharmacy), it is the natural base for exploring the Tena Valley, Panticosa, Formigal and the surrounding mountain routes.
The town has a pleasant old quarter with the church of San Salvador and a medieval bridge over the Gállego. But its main draw is its strategic position: 15 minutes from Formigal and Panticosa ski resorts, 20 from high-mountain lakes and at the gateway to the GR-11.
In summer, Biescas is a base for canyoning, rafting on the Gállego, hiking, MTB and routes to mountain lakes. The Balneario de Panticosa (12 km) adds a thermal option. In winter, the Tena Valley ski resorts (Formigal-Panticosa, 176 km of slopes) are the main draw.
Biescas is 85 km from Huesca and 30 km from the French border (Col du Pourtalet).
