Taravilla is a small municipality in the Serranía de Cuenca, on the Guadalajara side, adjacent to the Lagunas de Ruidera protected area and with the Taravilla lagoon itself within its municipal boundaries. This karstic landscape of limestone and dolomite creates a terrain of canyons, springs and linked lagoons that makes the area one of the most attractive freshwater territories in inland Spain. Best time to visit
Spring is the best time for hiking, with the lagoons at their highest level and vegetation in bloom. Summer is ideal for water activities, though August can be busy. Autumn offers outstanding colours and fewer crowds.
Practical tips
Wear water shoes for hiking sections along the lagoon shores, as the ground near the water can be slippery. For caving, a certified guide is mandatory and you should never enter unmarked caves.
