About Taravilla

Taravilla is a small municipality in the Serranía de Cuenca, on the Guadalajara side, adjacent to the Lagunas de Ruidera protected area and with the Taravilla lagoon itself within its municipal boundaries. Kayaking and canoeing on the calm waters of the lagoon are the most popular water activities. Hiking...

Highlights

  • • Kayaking and canoeing on Taravilla lagoon and the Ruidera area
  • • Hiking through karstic canyons with tufa formations and limestone walls
  • • Caving in cavities of the local karstic system
  • • Mountain biking on forest tracks between lagoons and rock formations

Best time to visit

Spring is the best time for hiking, with the lagoons at their highest level and vegetation in bloom. Summer is ideal for water activities, though August can be busy. Autumn offers outstanding colours and fewer crowds.

Practical tips

Wear water shoes for hiking sections along the lagoon shores, as the ground near the water can be slippery. For caving, a certified guide is mandatory and you should never enter unmarked caves.
