Barcelona offers outdoor activities in a sea-and-mountain setting just a few kilometres from the city centre. The Collserola ridge (512 m) runs through the city within an 8,000-ha natural park where hikers and mountain bikers tackle routes such as the Carretera de les Aigües. To the south, the Garraf massif concentrates technical climbing and MTB trails, while the Mediterranean coastline from Montgat to Castelldefels supports sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing and diving in water temperatures of 18–24 °C between June and October.
Spring and autumn are the most active seasons, with temperatures of 16–22 °C and calm seas. Summer is best for water sports; winter is mild (10–15 °C) and suitable for coastal hiking and mountain biking. Public transport links the centre to Collserola trailheads (FGC commuter rail) and beaches (Metro L4). Activities in the Garraf or climbing at Sant Salvador require a car (30–40 min).
Highlights

Practical tips
For sea kayaking on days with tramontane or levant winds, always check the marine forecast before heading out: the Barcelona coast can turn choppy quickly.
