Discover Albacete

Albacete sits at the heart of the La Mancha plateau and serves as a gateway to several of the most activity-rich natural parks in inland Spain. Las Lagunas de Ruidera, roughly 70 km to the west, host most of the area's kayak and canoeing offer, with seventeen linked lagoons framed by hiking routes crossing waterfalls and limestone canyons. To the southeast, the Sierra de Alcaraz, about 60 km away, opens up hiking through juniper and pine forest, horse-riding along historic drove roads and caving in well-developed karst systems. In the immediate surroundings of the city, the La Mancha plain provides mountain biking on agricultural tracks and livestock paths in good condition. The network of drove roads and trails crossing the province adds up to hundreds of kilometres for horse riding or mountain biking, mostly flat, with open views over grain fields and vineyards.

Best time to visit

Spring and autumn are the best times: mild temperatures, the lagoons at good water levels and the sierra free of the extreme summer heat of La Mancha.

Practical tips

In summer, temperatures on the La Mancha plain often exceed 38 ºC; plan outdoor activities for early morning to avoid the midday heat.
