What you'll experience

  1. Arrival and Historic Jaca

    Welcome in Jaca, briefing and first walk through the historic center and the Romanesque cathedral of San Pedro.

  2. Ascent to Peña de Oroel

    Mountain day climbing to Peña de Oroel (1,769 m), with a view of the central Pyrenees.

  3. Saint John of the Rock

    Visit to the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña and trails through its wooded surroundings.

  4. Trails and viewpoints

    Mountain route through viewpoints and forests of Jacetania, with interpretive stops led by the guide.

  5. Last route and farewell

    Short loop route with return trip. Trip ends early in the afternoon.

It’s a good fit if you enjoy hiking but are also interested in history and heritage, and prefer a pace that combines mountain trails with cultural visits. The routes are of moderate difficulty: the climb to Peña de Oroel requires effort, but it’s manageable with normal physical fitness. It's not technical high-mountain climbing. If you are only interested in challenging peaks and aren’t concerned with culture, this trip isn't for you.

How much walking is involved each day?
Between 3 and 5 hours on the hiking days. The days with cultural visits are more relaxed. The climb to Peña de Oroel is the most demanding.
Are the entrance fees to the monuments included?
The guide coordinates the tour program; entrance fees to monuments may not be included depending on the case. We will finalize this when booking is confirmed.
Is this a physically demanding trip?
It’s a moderate level: it combines manageable mountain routes with relaxed visits. You can enjoy it without any problems with normal physical fitness.
Is transportation to the routes included?
Yes, transfers from Jaca to the route points and monuments are included in the program.
