Description

Suances is a seaside town on the central Cantabrian coast with Roman-era origins, set on the San Martin de la Arena estuary 30 kilometres from Santander. Its beaches have made it one of the most recognised surf destinations on the Cantabrian Sea.

Playa de Los Locos, declared a Natural Surf Reserve, attracts surfers from across Spain for its consistent waves. Playa de la Concha, more sheltered, is the town's go-to family beach. From Punta del Dichoso, where the Suances lighthouse stands, the panorama stretches along the entire coast to the Picos de Europa on clear days.

The old town preserves the charm of Cantabrian fishing villages. The Barrio de La Cuba, with its houses suspended over the estuary, is the most photographed corner. Local cuisine is built on shellfish and fresh fish from the market, complemented by beef from the inland pastures.
