Description

San Felices de Buelna is a municipality in the Besaya Valley that concentrates five Cultural Heritage Sites in a compact territory. The Hornos de la Pena Cave, with rock engravings of bovines, horses and goats, was declared a monument in 1924 and forms part of the Cantabrian coast cave art ensemble.

The Pero Nino Tower, in the Llano district, is a 14th-century Gothic military tower that was the residence of Pero Nino, Count of Buelna and one of the great medieval Castilian seafarers. Monte Dobra preserves the remains of an Iron Age hillfort with valley views.

The town combines archaeological (prehistoric and protohistoric), medieval (tower and Church of San Felix) and natural (Monte Dobra) heritage, making it a compendium of Cantabrian history at municipal scale.
