Description

At 1,814 metres, Penyagolosa is the second-highest peak in the Valencian Community and Castellón's most emblematic mountain. The surrounding natural park harbours black pine forests, ancient holm oaks and fauna including Iberian ibex and golden eagle. Several hiking routes depart from Sant Joan de Penyagolosa. From the summit, views extend to the Mediterranean, the Maestrazgo and on clear days the Columbretes Islands.

Bring layers — the summit can be 10°C colder than the base. Plenty of water. Start early to avoid afternoon fog. Sant Joan shelter has a bar.
