Munigua Archaeological Site

The Munigua Archaeological Site is an ancient Roman city located in the municipality of Villanueva del Río y Minas, in the province of Seville. This archaeological enclave offers a clear glimpse into urban life in Roman Hispania, with remains including houses, streets, thermal baths, and a sanctuary notable for its terraced architecture. The surrounding landscape is a blend of Mediterranean dehesa and gentle hills, providing a tranquil and evocative natural setting.

Among the most remarkable structures is the stepped podium temple, a unique construction on the Iberian Peninsula that reflects the religious and social importance of the site. Additionally, remains of walls, forums, and other public buildings can be seen, allowing an understanding of the city's organization and development during the 1st and 2nd centuries AD.

Munigua was a mining and agricultural center, which explains its prosperity and the richness of its constructions. The city was inhabited until the Visigothic period, and its ruins offer valuable data on the transition between classical antiquity and the Middle Ages in this region of Andalusia.
