Description

The Aguas Tuertas Valley is one of the most beautiful and serene landscapes in the Aragonese Pyrenees: a glacial plain of green meadow at 1,620 metres where the River Aragón Subordán meanders in impossible loops before disappearing between mountains. The name comes precisely from these meanders — "aguas tuertas", twisted waters.

The valley, in the municipality of Hecho (Hecho Valley, Huesca), is the largest glacial plain in the Spanish Pyrenees. Surrounded by 2,000 m peaks with beech and pine forests, it hosts prehistoric dolmens, semi-wild horses and wildlife including marmots, chamois and golden eagles.

The most popular access route starts from the Selva de Oza (car park) along a 7 km forest track (2 hours on foot). You can also arrive by 4x4 with authorisation. Once in the valley, the walk through the meadow among meanders is flat and magical — one of those places where time seems to stop.

Aguas Tuertas is especially photogenic at sunrise and sunset, when mist rises from the meanders and low-angle light illuminates the meadow. In autumn, the colours of the beech forest along the access route are spectacular.
