Caving in the Nívar and Las Latas Caves, Granada

Context Caving at the Nívar and Las Latas caves takes place in the Sierra de la Yedra, within the Natural Park of Sierra de Huétor, Granada. This underground complex spans 204 meters with a 23-meter vertical drop, featuring steep ramps and tight passages connecting two distinct caves. The protected natural setting offers panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada and maintains a stable internal temperature of around 10°C with high humidity levels.

The Experience The adventure begins with a 1.5-kilometer walk from the Campamento de la Alfaguara, where the cool air carries scents of pine and thyme. After a safety briefing, you descend a 20-meter vertical drop using rappelling techniques. You’ll then explore large chambers filled with ancient stalactites and stalagmites, followed by a 50-meter narrow gorge linking both caves. Along the route, you’ll visit Civil War-era trenches—silent witnesses to the region’s turbulent past.

For Whom Recommended for individuals with moderate physical fitness and no fear of confined spaces, age 12 and older. Requires willingness to perform rappelling and move through tight spaces. Not suitable for people with limited mobility or those who avoid physical exertion or enclosed environments.
