What to do in Lerma

Lerma is a ducal town in Burgos dominated by the Ducal Palace of the Duke of Lerma (17th century), now a National Parador. The Plaza Mayor, one of the largest in Spain, is surrounded by arcades and convents forming an exceptional Baroque monumental ensemble. The Duke of Lerma, favourite of Philip III, transformed the town into a centre of power and culture. The architectural legacy includes the palace, six convents, the Collegiate Church of San Pedro and the Prison Arch. A medieval walkway over the River Arlanza connects to the lower town. Lerma is 40 km from Burgos and a natural stop on the route to the Ribera del Duero. Castilian gastronomy: roast lamb, Burgos black pudding.
