Description

Ucieda is a small village in the municipality of Ruente, in the heart of Saja-Besaya Natural Park. The village is the gateway to the Ucieda Forest, one of the best-preserved Atlantic oak woodlands on the entire Cantabrian coast, with over 3,600 hectares of centennial oaks, beeches, chestnuts and holly.

From the Casa del Monte interpretation centre near the village, three waymarked routes depart: the Bridges Route (circular along the River Bayones), the Hayacorva Route (panoramic with gentle slope) and the Monumental Trees Path (the forest's most remarkable specimens).

The village maintains the typical architecture of Cantabria's inland valleys: stone houses with kitchen gardens, integrated stables and a parish church presiding over the hamlet. In autumn, the forest explodes in colour and the paths fill with mushroom foragers.
