Description

Denia Castle crowns the hill overlooking the city, the harbour and the Montgo, with archaeological layers spanning over 2,000 years: Iberian, Roman, Islamic and Christian remains visible within the same walls. Rebuilt as a citadel during the Taifa of Denia (11th century), it preserves the Torre Roja, Torre del Consell and Portal de la Vila among ramparts and gardens.

The on-site archaeological museum displays Islamic ceramics, coins and artefacts documenting the era when Denia was a taifa capital. From the battlements you get 360-degree views: the Montgo to the south, the harbour to the east and, northward, the coastal plain to Cape San Antonio. Free guided tours run on Saturdays at 11:30 with child-adapted audioguides.
