Description

The Rambla de Barrachina is a 65-hectare desert landscape south of Teruel, known as the "Aragonese Grand Canyon". Water and wind erosion over millennia has carved ravines, badlands and red clay formations creating a scene reminiscent of the American Wild West — but right at the gates of Teruel.

The heart of the route is the Red Canyon, a narrow gorge with reddish walls that is the most photogenic point of the trail. The path follows the dry riverbed among eroded formations in colours ranging from deep red to ochre and white, with textures that change with the daylight.

The most complete route combines the badlands with the climb to the Muela de Teruel (1,052 m), offering a panorama of the cliffs and plateau. The circular route is about 12 km and moderate difficulty.

Access is from the N-330 (Teruel-Cuenca), near the hamlet of Villaspesa. No facilities in the area — bring water, sun protection and hiking shoes. Avoid rainy days (slippery clay) and midday in summer.
