Somo is the natural starting point for paddling through the Bahía de Santander. From the pier, or from the bridge connecting Somo with Pedreña, the two classic routes depart: heading inland through the Cubas estuary, a calm stretch of water that winds between meadows and groves where there is hardly any boat traffic; or heading out, skirting the Somo beach towards the sandbar of El Puntal, with Santander directly across the water.

This is self-guided rental: there is no guide. You take the kayak, they explain the route to you, and you paddle at your own pace, with the only condition being to return to the starting point. The kayaks are single or double and feature adjustable backrests; if you are bringing a towel, camera, or food, they provide a dry bag or container. The paddle, life jacket, and insurance are included.

The bay is protected water with no swell, so no previous experience is required, but it is advisable to check the tide and wind before setting off: in the Cubas estuary, the tidal current pushes, and it is much more pleasant to head in with the tide and return when it turns.
