Description

The Benasque Valley is the most alpine valley in the Aragonese Pyrenees, crowned by Aneto (3,404 m) — the roof of the Pyrenees and the highest peak on the Iberian Peninsula after Teide. The valley holds over 60 peaks above 3,000 metres, glaciers (Aneto, Maladeta), high-mountain lakes and black pine forests.

Benasque, the town that gives the valley its name, is a base for mountaineering, skiing and nature tourism. The Cerler ski resort (the highest in the Aragonese Pyrenees, up to 2,630 m) offers quality snow from December to April. In summer, the valley becomes a paradise for hiking, canyoning, climbing and via ferrata.

The Posets-Maladeta Natural Park protects the upper valley, with the Maladeta massif and Posets (3,375 m, the Pyrenees' second peak). The Llanos del Hospital, at the head of the valley, are the starting point for the Aneto ascent and for family routes in an accessible high-mountain setting.

The valley has a complete tourism offering: hotels, mountain restaurants, adventure companies, spa (Balneario de Benasque) and a mountaineering tradition dating back to the 19th century and the first Aneto ascensionists.
