The Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, opened in 2004 in Briones (La Rioja), is considered the largest and most complete wine museum in the world by UNESCO. It occupies more than 9,000 m² and runs through the history of wine and viticulture in 5 thematic rooms, with original works by Picasso, Sorolla, Tàpies, Miró, Warhol and Chillida among others, as well as a Garden of Bacchus with 220 grape varieties from all over the world.
The complex shares grounds with Bodegas Vivanco, founded by the Vivanco family, which produces wines under D.O.Ca. Rioja. The visit offers three modalities, all with prior booking: museum-only entry (18€), guided winery visit with tasting (18€) and a combined visit including museum, winery and tasting (26€). The whole takes between 75 minutes and 3 hours depending on the modality chosen.
Briones is a small medieval village on a hilltop overlooking the Ebro valley, declared a Historic-Artistic Complex. The setting combines visits to wineries and museum, walks through the historic centre and views over the vineyards of the upper Rioja.
