Description

Bodegas Protos is the historic D.O. Ribera del Duero winery, founded in 1927 in Peñafiel (Valladolid). It was one of the founding wineries of the Denomination of Origin and produced the first wines under the name "Protos". It has a network of underground galleries excavated beneath the Peñafiel castle and a modern winery designed by Richard Rogers + Alonso Balaguer, inaugurated in 2008, with five large arches that open onto the vineyards.

The winery offers two visit modalities, both with prior booking: a basic guided visit with tasting of two wines (10€) and a more complete visit with premium tasting (48€). The route runs through the historic galleries, the modern winery and the vineyards, with technical explanation of the winemaking process and the history of Protos.

Peñafiel, with its medieval castle that crowns the town and houses the Provincial Wine Museum, is one of the most iconic destinations of Castilian enotourism. Direct connection by the N-122 with Aranda de Duero and Valladolid.
