Description

Birdwatching route in the Albufera Natural Park with a specialist ornithologist guide. Over 300 recorded species make this wetland one of the hotspots of Iberian ornithology. The route visits strategic hides — Racó de l'Olla (the oldest and best-equipped), La Pipa (among rice paddies), El Tancat de la Pipa (fenced reserve with limited access) — where professional binoculars and Swarovski telescopes allow close-range sightings without disturbing birds. The guide identifies each species by song, flight and silhouette: pink flamingos at the sluice gates, marsh harriers patrolling reed beds, little bitterns hidden in vegetation, electric-blue purple swamphens and the scarce Audouin's gull perched on lagoon posts. The route is especially rich during autumn migration (September-November), when thousands of waders, ducks and raptors stop at the Albufera en route to Africa. In winter (December-February) up to 30,000 waterbirds concentrate here. Dawn or sunset departure by season, in small groups of maximum 8 to minimise impact.
