Equestrian tourism has a long-standing tradition in this area. The dehesas around Toledo contain several estates running horse riding programmes through holm oak groves and scrubland, with the Sierra de Gredos as a backdrop to the north. The municipality's location between Madrid and Toledo makes it a strategic access point for active tourism in central Spain, reachable from both capitals in under an hour.

- • Horse riding through holm oak dehesas around Toledo and the Escalona comarca

- • Rural active tourism activities less than an hour from both Madrid and Toledo
Best time to visit
Spring and autumn for mountain biking and hiking, with mild temperatures and flowering or colourful autumn landscapes. Winter is suitable for short routes. Summer on the plateau is very hot.
Practical tips
Mountain bike routes across the plateau are best tackled in the early morning during summer: heat becomes intense after 11am. For horse riding, book in advance at weekends in spring when demand is high. The municipality sits on the A-5 motorway with excellent connections to Madrid.
