Highlights

  • • Laguna Negra in the Picos de Urbión: glacial cirque at 1,753 m amid pine forest
  • • Hiking in Río Lobos Canyon with griffon vultures and limestone walls
  • • Long-distance MTB through Soria pine forests and drovers' roads
  • • Horse-riding routes across the Altos de Barahona plateau

Best time to visit

Spring and autumn for hiking and MTB. Summer for Laguna Negra and high-altitude routes. Winter is possible but cold; snow is frequent in the Urbión range from December to March.

Practical tips

Access to Laguna Negra may be regulated or closed in summer due to overcrowding. Check access status before departing. In Río Lobos Canyon, an early start guarantees seeing the griffon vultures active in the morning sun.
