Plans, activities and things to see in Arona

About Arona

Arona covers the southwest of Tenerife and borders the Teide National Park, making it a natural gateway to the island's volcanic trails. Hiking across lava fields and cañadas around Teide starts from altitudes of 2,000 m, through landscapes of lapilli and basaltic rock. Montaña Guaza, within the municipality itself, is another popular hiking destination with views of both the sea and the volcano from its summit. Along the coast, the beaches of Las Galletas and Los Cristianos are the focal point...

Highlights

  • • Volcanic hiking across Teide's cañadas starting from 2,000 m altitude
  • • Beginner surf lessons and snorkelling in the sheltered waters of Los Cristianos
  • • Paragliding from coastal launch sites with views of Teide and the Atlantic
  • • MTB combining central massif forest tracks with descents to the shore

Best time to visit

Tenerife allows activities year-round, but spring and autumn offer mild temperatures at both coast and altitude without peak-season crowds.

Practical tips

To combine beach and Teide in a single day, head to the national park in the morning (visibility is best before noon) and save the coast for the afternoon.
